English proficiency is essential if you want to become a pilot.
At Pacific Professional Flight Centre, all international students whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate English ability before admission. The minimum requirement is:
- Transport Canada Aviation-Language Proficiency Test: Level 4 Operation, or
-
IELTS: Band score of at least 6.0 in both Listening and Speaking, or
-
ICAO English: Level 4 or higher, or
- CLB: 7, or
- TOEFL: iBT score of 80 or higher
Transport Canada Aviation-Language Proficiency Test is a conversational test that assesses listening and speaking skills—it does not include reading or writing components. It must be completed prior to the issuance of Private Pilot License. A score of Level 4 Operational is required. At our school, we recommend students complete this test before their first solo flight.
For students whose first language is not English, we strongly encourage taking ESL (English as a Second Language) courses to meet the language requirement and ensure success in training.
